My Story
“What does Thyial mean?”
- I’ve been asked this question so many times. To be honest, where it came from is really nothing special, but as time went on, it started to become more than just a name.
Bear (on the right) helps with most of the design work and labor. Please consider buying some products to help me pay him.
Hi, my name is not Thyial. Its more of my “alias” so to speak. I started a YouTube channel back in 2016 with the hopes of one day turning my creativity and skills into a thriving business.
As far back as I can remember, there has always been this little drive of emotion pushing me towards towards entrepreneurship. Weather that be my first “business” selling chicken eggs or going door to door with my little brother dropping of flyers for our lawn care business, the drives always been there. However, it wasn’t the only thing, or the most prominent.
My biggest passion lies within my own hands, literally. I like making things! I think this mostly came from watching my Dad fix anything we broke. And trust me, it was a lot. From go-carts to trucks to tree houses it seemed like there was nothing he couldn’t do. I think watching and learning (holding the flash light for him, while he yells at me to put it in the right spot) ultimately drove me to my current career path.
After high school I knew I definitely wanted to go into a feild where I could be creative and use my hands. So not knowing much and having little direction, I decided to attend college. But don’t get me started on that, there’s a few things, looking back now, that I might have done different. The key take away though, is that I went into engineering, first computer science, then electrical engineering. However, I think I underestimated how boring a typical engineering job really is. I found that out my second year of college. Which (by “coincidence”) is also when I started my YouTube channel.
You see, engineering theory and equations only had my interest for, usually the first 15 minutes of class. I needed to make something in real life, not just through math. So I started making small side projects, like my: concealed stun gun which was one of my first videos. This lead me to other YouTube channels like The Hacksmith and ZNA productions, where they would make cool weapons and mechanical projects. But the best part was, they were getting paid for it!
This lit the initial light bulb for me. From that point on I knew I wanted to get paid for making things. The only problem was, I didn’t know what to make. So I started making similar projects like those from my favorite YouTubers above. But there was another problem with this. In order to make these projects you need money for supplies and tools. And on a lesser note, I still needed to eat, I was still in college need I remind you!
To solve the money problem, I cycled through a few jobs, but the one that hit gave me the most leverage, skills and opportunity. I ended up landing a job with a one man fabrication and repair shop. I worked full time and sometimes 12-16 hours a day doing fabrication and repair for the agricultural industry, not because I had to, rather, I enjoyed the work and felt I was learning more than I was in class. But to make things short because this is getting a little too long.. This is where my entrepreneurial drive and hands on skills really took off. I saw how much work there was in metal fabrication, and to be fair, I was relatively good at it. Pair that with my engineering background and creative drive and you have a formula for great potential.
I call it potential because, I’m not there yet. If your reading this it will be an exciting stage in my life, one full of potential. I plan on starting and growing a successful business built around metal fabrication but there’s a lot to do before then. This website is but a small stepping stone towards that goal. As I look back at my path, to my first egg selling business, my first year in college, my first YouTube video and my first fabrication job, it seems like its been precisely laid out for me. Or maybe I’ve been the one laying the stones? Either way I wonder what life will be like in the next five to ten years?
